Transport Team Manager – Poundland, Harlow Distribution Centre

Are you an experienced transport professional with a passion for leadership and operational excellence?

Poundland is looking for a dynamic Transport Team Manager to join our Harlow Distribution Centre. In this role, you will ensure that our deliveries arrive at stores on time and in a safe, compliant manner. You’ll be responsible for managing the daily operations of our transport team, meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and ensuring that our team of drivers is motivated, well-trained, and compliant with all relevant legislation.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00, with the need to cover night shifts as required to meet operational demands.

We uphold three core behaviours that guide all our actions:

Love Our Customers: We strive to delight our customers, listening and responding to their needs because they are our priority.

Care for Our Colleagues: We support each other to foster a workplace where everyone can thrive.

Protect Our Pounds/Euros: We are committed to cost-efficiency and value, ensuring every penny counts.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

Why choose us?

At Poundland, we believe in more than just great value – we believe in great people. We Care for our Colleagues by creating a supportive and inclusive environment, we Love our Customers by ensuring they receive the best service possible, and we Protect the Pound/Euro by maintaining efficient and effective operations. As a Transport Team Manager, you’ll play a key role in upholding these values and driving the success of our transport operations.

Your Impact and Responsibilities…

  • Lead Daily Operations: Direct daily transport activities, ensuring a safe, secure, and fair work environment for all colleagues.
  • Manage and Motivate: Oversee the day-to-day management of our driver colleagues, ensuring that they are engaged, motivated, and performing to the best of their abilities.
  • Ensure Compliance: Maintain legal compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including health and safety requirements.
  • Achieve KPIs: Meet and exceed KPIs by effectively managing resources, processes, and communication.
  • Communicate Effectively: Ensure timely communication of delivery updates to the Retail Support Team (RST) and other key stakeholders.
  • Optimise Operations: Use vehicle tracking systems and debrief information to identify and implement improvements in productivity and efficiency.
  • Support and Develop: Provide training, development, and regular feedback to your team, celebrating successes and addressing areas for improvement.
  • Manage Incidents: Investigate and follow up on all accidents/incidents, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Organise and lead initiatives aimed at improving productivity targets and overall team performance.

Skills and Knowledge…

  • Strong Transport Operations Knowledge: A deep understanding of transport operations and legislation is essential.
  • Proven Management Experience: Previous experience in managing teams within a transport or logistics environment is required.
  • Health & Safety Expertise: Knowledge of health and safety requirements to ensure the well-being of all colleagues.
  • Leadership Skills: The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, driving performance and maintaining high standards.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with drivers, coordinators, and other key stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues, ensuring smooth operations.
