About the role...

Are you an experienced transport professional passionate about leadership and operational excellence? 

Poundland is seeking a Transport Team Manager-Nights to join our Harlow Distribution Centre. In this role, you will ensure that our deliveries arrive at stores promptly, safely, and compliantly. You’ll be responsible for managing the daily operations of our transport team, meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and ensuring that our team of drivers is motivated, well-trained, and compliant with all relevant legislation.

This is a full-time position, with a Week One and a Week Two, Night shift pattern. 

Week One = 4 days x12hrs 

Week Two = 3 days x12hrs

This role includes a night Premium of £4,712.24

Your Impact and Responsibilities…

  • Lead Daily Operations: Direct daily transport activities, ensuring a safe, secure, and fair work environment for all colleagues.
  • Manage and Motivate: Oversee the day-to-day management of our driver colleagues, ensuring that they are engaged, motivated, and performing to the best of their abilities.
  • Ensure Compliance: Maintain legal compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including health and safety requirements.
  • Achieve KPIs: Meet and exceed KPIs by managing resources, processes, and communication effectively.
  • Communicate Effectively: Ensure timely communication of delivery updates to the Retail Support Team (RST) and other key stakeholders.
  • Optimise Operations: Use vehicle tracking systems and debrief information to identify and implement improvements in productivity and efficiency.
  • Support and Develop: Provide training, development, and regular feedback to your team, celebrating successes and addressing areas for improvement.
  • Manage Incidents: Investigate and follow up on all accidents/incidents, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Organise and lead initiatives to improve productivity targets and overall team performance.

Skills and Knowledge…

  • Strong Transport Operations Knowledge: A deep understanding of transport operations and legislation is essential.
  • Proven Management Experience: Previous experience managing teams within a transport or logistics environment is required.
  • Health & Safety Expertise: Knowledge of health and safety requirements to ensure the well-being of all colleagues.
  • Leadership Skills: The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, driving performance and maintaining high standards.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with drivers, coordinators, and other key stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving ability: A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues, ensuring smooth operations.
